Tour Itinerary

Immerse yourself in the profound tranquility and sacred history of Old Coptic Cairo, one of the world's oldest Christian enclaves. This holy district, home to 14 historic churches and a revered synagogue, offers a powerful testament to Egypt's rich tapestry of faith.

Your journey begins at the ancient Babylon Fortress, whose remnants date to the 1st century A.D. Explore the site of this Roman stronghold, where one of its original three towers still stands.

Next, visit the sublime Hanging Church (Al-Muallaqa), consecrated to the Virgin Mary. Built in the 5th century atop the fortress's southern gate, this architectural gem is adorned with 110 exquisite icons. Your guide will illuminate its history as a former patriarchal seat, detailing its beautiful cedarwood ceiling, inlaid altars, and marble pulpit.

Continue to the historic Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus (Abu Serga), a site of deep pilgrimage. Descend into the crypt that sheltered the holy family for three months during their flight into Egypt. Experience the serenity of this sacred cave, where the infant Jesus is believed to have rested. Above, view the ancient well from which the family drank, a site of enduring spiritual significance.

Witness Egypt’s legacy of religious coexistence with a visit to the Ben Ezra Synagogue. As Cairo's oldest Jewish temple, it stands as a monument to the historic Jewish community. Your guide will share its full history, from its namesake—a Jerusalem merchant—to the customs and traditions it preserved.

Conclude your day with a stroll down Al-Muizz Street, the famed thoroughfare at the core of Historic Islamic Cairo. Walk alongside colossal city walls and gates from the 10th century, and admire monumental mosque complexes like those of Qalawun and Barquq. As you explore, absorb the vibrant street life, passing historic coffee shops and grand Ottoman mansions that echo the city's illustrious past.
