Why the name Egypt, and what is the reason for naming it Egypt?

  1. The Egyptians chose the name of the god (Hwt-ka-Ptah), which was in the Greek language "Aegyptus."
  2. It was mentioned in the book "Odyssey" that the Greeks found it challenging to pronounce the word, and it was twisted so that the word became pronounced (egupet).
  3. Then they added the letter "S" to "egupet," and it became "egupets." The modern European languages twisted it to become (Egypt).

After explaining why Egypt is called by this name, there are some nicknames that have been given to Egypt throughout the ages and historical eras.

  • "Kemt," which indicates the fertility of its land due to the course of the Nile River; this name was popular with the ancient Egyptians.
  • "Dashret," which means the red or desert land, and "Tawi," which indicates the regions of Upper Egypt and the Delta.
  • "Eidboy" in ancient times referred to the Nile River's eastern and western sides.
  • "the two lands," The kings of Egypt loved this name to describe their rule as the unifiers of the two regions.

But some said that the two lands' names describe Upper and Lower Egypt; the upper is the southern part, and the lower is the northern part. In those eras, which explained why it was called Egypt, one of the historians said that Egypt is associated with the name of an Egyptian temple. Pointing out that in ancient Egypt, there was a religious temple of a deity called "Petah," Which has a statue in Abu Simbel. He added the temple is called "Hut Ka-Petah," which means the house of the consort of the soul of Petah. After that, the name was transformed in Greek and Latin into "Iqptah" and then "Egyptus," and it came to mean Egypt, and then the English language adopted it.

Certainly, Egypt is a place of civilizations. For more than 7,000 years, it has possessed a wealth of knowledge and cultural artefacts that have allowed it to dominate and guide. According to Napoleon Bonaparte, Egypt was the centre of the earth, and whoever controlled it ruled over the whole planet.
