With artifacts that date back to the predynastic periods, Elephantine Island is one of the most ancient sites in Egypt. Spend a few hours with Your Egypt Tours exploring the largest island in the region, which has an important role in Egyptian history. Elephantine Island is the largest of the Aswan area islands and is one of the most ancient sites in Egypt, with artifacts dating to predynastic periods. This is probably due to its location at the First Cataract of the Nile, which provided a natural boundary between Egypt and Nubia. As an island, it was also easily defensible. The ancient town located on the southern part of the island was also a fortress throughout much of its history.
At one time, there was a bridge from the mainland to the island. Elephantine is Greek for elephants. In ancient times, the Island, as well as the southern town, was called Abu, or Yabu, which also meant elephant. The town has also been referenced as Kom, after its principal god of the island, Khnum (Khnemu). It is believed that the island received its name because it was a major ivory trading center, though, in fact, it was a major trading post for many commodities. There are large boulders in the river near the island which resemble bathing elephants, particularly from afar, and this too has been suggested as a reason for the island's name.
Please note: In the event of strong Nile currents, travel will be by motorboat rather than felucca to ensure safety.

You will need to spend 2-3 days in Aswan to see the main attractions. The first day is dedicated to visiting the Philae Temple, Abu Simbel Temple, or the High Dam, all of them are situated on the Nile River so you will enjoy all of them in our Egypt Nile Cruise tours. The second day is dedicated to exploring the Nubian museum and the Nubian Village. The Nubian people's history and culture are explored in the museum.
We recommend you go to Luxor because Luxor has a lot of important ancient Egyptian sites that need a lot of walking around and visiting its temples while Aswan is seen as a place of rest next to its temples.
Aswan offers a wide variety of attractions for visitors to discover and is an ideal base for a one-day tour of the city of Abu Simbel.
The architecture of the High Dam is not only visually attractive nor is it of historical interest. It is hardly a must-see tourist attraction in Aswan.
Travel has helped us to understand the meaning of life and it has helped us become better people. Each time we travel, we see the world with new eyes.
Absolutely mind blowing. A definite must see. We flew from Aswan after I contact Your Egypt Tours, as I did not want to sit in car for hours with my 10-year-old daughter. Just so much history and ancient love. You cannot miss this one thing if you are in Egypt. The rocks are just HUGE, so special.
I recently traveled with my wife, daughter, son in law and two grandsons (ages 4 and 2) to Egypt with Your Egypt Tours. We had a private tour experience. From the moment we landed at the airport on our arrival to the day we left we were treated with the utmost care and attention
Our trip to Egypt was wonderful. The accommodations and travel was seamlessly arranged by customer service rep, Mona, and we visited so many of the famous Egyptian antiquities. I would not have done the trip without the very knowledgeable guides, Ashraf and Mamdouh
