Upon meeting your guide at your hotel, you will begin your tour of one of the most important museums in Cairo. The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization hosts over 50,000 artifacts encapsulating Egypt's history across several eras. Your knowledgeable Egyptologist guide will accompany you and provide an introduction to the museum and its fascinating exhibits.
The collection is separated into two separate regions, chronological and thematic. The chronological displays items from the Pharaonic, Greco-Roman, Coptic, Islamic, and modern eras. Here you will find countless fascinating pieces that reflect Egypt's cultural growth and development.
Following your visit to the museum, continue your day tour by visiting Old Coptic Cairo. This sacred and holy area contains 14 churches and a Jewish synagogue. Your tour of this location begins with a visit to the Hanging Church. This magnificent church was constructed in the 5th century and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. This church was built above one of the gatehouses of the Fortress of Babylon. Your guide will illustrate the finer details of the church and its significance before moving on to the Cavern Church or the Church of St Sergius and Bacchus. Thousands of visitors visit this historic site annually to see the cave where Jesus and the Virgin Mary sought refuge during their journey to Egypt.
Continue to the remarkable Citadel of Saladin, which sits upon one of Egypt's highest mountains. This impressive construct was built to protect the city against the Crusaders. Inside the citadel, you will find the beautiful Alabaster Mosque. You will visit the mosque to see its main components and learn about the Islamic basics. Aside from its vast size and exquisite beauty, one of the beautiful elements of this mosque is that it has two identical slim minarets, top-covered with lead as the mosque domes and semi-domes. Enjoy the panoramic view of the city from the mosque, where you can see the Giza pyramids on clear days.
You will be returned to the hotel at the end of the tour.
