Tour Itinerary

Your Egyptologist guide will pick you up from the Luxor Airport. He will be waiting for you outside the terminal. The guide will be holding a sign with your name and the name of our company Your Egypt Tours.

You will step back in time and experience Egypt's ancient history at the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut Temple.

After crossing the Nile River to the West Bank, you will visit the necropolis of the ancient city of Thebes. Arriving at the Valley of the Kings, the burial place of the kings of Thebes (ancient Luxor), you will have a brief stop at the visitor's center. Guides are not permitted inside the tombs but your guide will tell you what to look for inside the richly decorated rooms. Here you may visit the tomb of King Tutankhamun (optional, for an additional cost). Leaving the hot sands of the Valley of the Kings, you will visit the Temple of Hatshepsut, which is one of the most striking monuments in Egypt. Your guide will introduce you to the history of the temple and the story of Queen Hatshepsut, the famous female ruler of Egypt who posed as a male to gain the throne. You will have free time to explore at your leisure as you wander the large courtyards and admire the intricate hieroglyphic decorations. On your way back to Luxor, you will stop at the Colossi of Memnon, which marks the site of the funerary temple of Amenhotep III. These two giant statues standing tall and proud on the West Bank day tours are all that remain of the ancient complex. In addition, you will have the chance to visit an alabaster factory and purchase genuine items if you wish.

Later in the afternoon, your Egyptologist guide will take you on a private tour of the East Bank of Luxor to see two of the most impressive temples in Upper Egypt: Karnak and Luxor Temples. Start your day with a visit to the Temples of Karnak. Walk along the Avenue of Sphinx to enter the complex as your guide explains how the massive facade was constructed. On entering the Temples of Karnak, you will see each legacy left by the various pharaohs as the complex grew even larger. The deeper you go into the complex, the further back in time you will travel, with the oldest ruins dating back over 3,000 years. Walking through the Great Court into the Great Hypostyle Hall, it's hard not to be overwhelmed by the 134 columns towering above you like an ancient forest. At the rear of the complex, you will find the sacred lake where centuries ago pharaohs and their offerings to the gods were purified. After touring the complex, you will have free time to explore at leisure. Thereafter, you will go to Luxor Temple which was once joined to the Temples of Karnak by a 2-kilometer-long Avenue of Sphinx, a portion of which marks the entrance to the temple. Dominated by statues of the great warrior pharaoh Ramses II, Luxor Temple has survived Nile floods, foreign invasion, and thousands of years exposed to the elements. A pure Egyptian temple, the inner walls, and columns are decorated with intricate hieroglyphics which your guide will help you decipher. Here you will find out how Alexander the Great wrote himself into Luxor Temple's history, and see one of the original pair of obelisks, the second of which now stands on the Place de la Concorde in Paris. After the conclusion of your tour, you will be driven back to Luxor Airport to catch your flight.

How can we help?

Find out our latest news, promotions, and professional tips. Know before you book your next Egypt tours

Being in Luxor for a single day is preferable to staying away. The main attractions in Luxor may be seen in one day. You can go to Hatshepsut Temple, the Valley of the Kings, Karnak Temple, and possibly one or two other monuments on a day excursion to Luxor. The truthful response would be that a day trip to Luxor is insufficient.

It is frequently described as the largest open-air museum in the world and for a good cause. You may find a ton of ruins, monuments, temples, and tombs there. You'll need at least two days of Egypt day tours to discover all that Luxor has to offer without feeling rushed.

Unless you travel with a tour group, visiting Luxor on your own can be rather stressful. Luxor has so many archaeological sites and things to do that touring each temple and cemetery may take several days and a lot of money!

There are no set meter rates for cabs in Luxor, although depending on your negotiation skills, the majority of journeys will cost between 5 and 150 Egyptian pounds (approximately $0.50 to $17). Uber and other ride-hailing services are not available in Luxor.

You should set aside about $200 for Luxor excursions, which would likely involve visiting the Luxor and Karnak Temples. West Bank Temples and the Valley of Kings and Queens. Felucca rides at sunset.

Travel has helped us to understand the meaning of life and it has helped us become better people. Each time we travel, we see the world with new eyes.

Absolutely mind blowing. A definite must see. We flew from Aswan after I contact them, as I did not want to sit in car for hours with my 10-year-old daughter. Just so much history and ancient love. You cannot miss this one thing if you are in Cairo. The rocks are just HUGE, so special.
